Husband & wife Broadway powerhouse duo Q. Smith & Lawrence Stallings will conclude the masterclass series with an audition workshop. Students will work on monologues and audition vocal cuts with Q. & Lawrence, while developing important skills needed for the audition room. This class will prepare students for any upcoming auditions in the fall. The class will conclude with a Q&A with Q. & Lawrence.
Q. Smith is currently playing the role of Hannah in the hit Broadway musical Come From Away. She has toured with the North American Broadway show- A Night With Janis Joplinplaying the roles of Aretha Franklin and Nina Simone. She was last seen on Broadway as the first African American actress to play a leading role in Disney’s Mary Poppins. Also on Broadway Q. was in the 1st revival of Les Miserables and Off Broadway she has performed and recorded the soundtrack for Fame: On 42nd Street. Other noted credits include Abyssinia: A Gospel Celebration with Wynton Marsalis at the Lincoln Center, Showboat in concert at the renowned Carnegie Hall, guest soloist for Hillary Clinton’s Vital Voices awards at the Kennedy Center and a guest soloist Barack Obama’s inaugural ceremonies. She has shared the stage with Gladys Knight, Rita Coolidge and Gary U. S Bonds in Smokey Joe’s Cafe’ amongst others and has traveled the world with various productions; including Central America, Germany, Amsterdam and the entire US . One of her favorite places to perform is in Sonoma, California at the Transcendence Theatre Company (where she recorded the song LIVE) Not only is she an entertainer, but a passionate educator. She has been developing a curriculum entitled Rehabilitative and Restorative Art Therapy, which helps children with behavioral problems and learning disabilities maintain their curriculum through the arts. Her goals are to build a performing arts school integrated with the juvenile system, open a bed and breakfast in Hawaii, travel the world, and finish her book Queens of the Theatre!
Lawrence Stallings is an actor born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. He holds an MFA in Acting from Temple University. Lawrence has appeared in Film, TV, National Commercials, Off-Broadway, and on Broadway most notably in the original productions of Passing Strange and The Book of Mormon. As a writer/producer, he has created two web series, I Take Thee Zoe and Circling The Drain and co-produced a the new series Dirty White, which is set to be released later this year.
