At the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center, volunteers are the lifeblood of our events. They serve as ushers, ticket scanners, and bartenders—but more than that, they help us create a welcoming, joyful experience for every patron who walks through our doors. We couldn’t do what we do without them.
Who Volunteers?
Our volunteer corps is made up of over 100 incredible individuals—some who join us a few times a week, others a few times a month. Together, they donate more than 3,000 hours a year. Whether you're here for the performances, the sense of community, or just love lending a hand, there's a place for you.
How to Get Started
Ready to join us? Start by applying for an account on our Volunteer Portal. Once you're signed up, you’ll need to attend a training session in the spring. This is required for both new and returning volunteers each year.
If you're interested in bartending, you'll need to attend both the regular training and a separate bar training session.
Once you’ve completed training, you’ll be officially welcomed into the WHBPAC volunteer family. You'll start receiving monthly emails with available shifts, and you’ll be added to our Google Group, which allows volunteers to reach out to one another for shift swaps or coverage.
What’s Expected of Me?
We ask that our volunteers show up on time, dressed appropriately in black and white with closed-toe shoes. (No sneakers, jeans, hats, or flashy accessories, please. Men should wear collared shirts.)
There’s no set minimum for how often you need to volunteer—but those who stay active and pitch in for a variety of events (not just the most popular ones!) are more likely to be scheduled consistently and considered for high-demand shows.
Volunteers are expected to prioritize the patron experience, be cheerful and helpful, and follow any instructions from staff. Depending on the event, you may need to stand for long periods, and you should stay until you're officially dismissed by the House Manager or Box Office team with "The Wave."
If you're ever unable to make a shift, we ask that you find a substitute from within the volunteer corps. We make this easy by adding you to our Google Group, so you can email all active volunteers at the same time.
What Can I Expect in Return?
Volunteering at WHBPAC means joining a vibrant, supportive community. You’ll get to experience world-class performances, build friendships, and take part in exclusive volunteer events like our Holiday Potluck and annual Volunteer Luncheon (for those who meet the requirements outlined in our yearly training). Active volunteers can also show their badge at the Box Office to receive a free ticket to our film screenings.
What will I see on the Volunteer Portal?
When you log in to the Volunteer Portal, you can sign up for events under "Opportunities" and see what events you were confirmed to under "Schedules". You will also be able to see any pertinent files that have been uploaded, like this year's Volunteer Manual.
