On Friday, April 6 – the Canadian alt country/blues/folk rock band, Cowboy Junkies, make their awaited return to Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center stage.
Their music is emotive, multi-layered and infused with country-tinged soul. The purveyors of this unique musical union are a quartet of a brothers-and-sister team of Margo (vocals), Peter (drums) and Michael Timmins (guitar), and completed by non-related bassist Alan Anton. Margo’s languid, velvety crooner vocals mixed with their ambitious songwriting have earned the Junkies a loyal core of fans, plus volumes of critical acknowledgment and acclaim, including being inducted in the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.
Formed in 1985, the Junkies made a name for themselves performing at clubs in Toronto’s Queen Street West. Their 1986 debut album, Whites Off Earth Now!!, was recorded using an ambisonic microphone in the family garage. Their follow-up album, The Trinity Session (recorded in Toronto’s Church of the Holy Trinity) put them on the map, garnering both critical attention and a cult following. With multiple award nominations as well as other accolades, the band has enjoyed decades of extensive touring across the world, bringing their signature concoction of blues, country, folk and jazz with them.
