 Job Description

The Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center has a part-time position open to serve as a Lighting & Theatre Technician. The tasks and duties associated with the Lighting & Theatre Technician position will vary based on the candidate’s experience, skills, knowledge, and abilities.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Director of Production, the Lighting & Theatre Technician will provide technical support for production related tasks, including but not limited to: lighting design, light board operation, hanging and focusing of lighting instruments, constructing scenery on an as needed basis, loading in and changing over scenic and technical elements for productions, constructing/refurbishing stock set components, loading, unloading and moving scenic elements, installation and strike of sound. Being a part of the run crew for each production, particularly during tech weeks. The Lighting & Theatre Technician will monitor the condition of equipment, and perform basic maintenance and keep the work areas and backstage areas clean and safe. This is an experience-level position and performs all other duties as assigned.

This position may be a seasonal, temporary assignment at which the duration can be extended or shortened at the discretion of the Westhampton Beach PAC. The work schedule will change from project to project requiring flexibility to facilitate weeknight and/or weekend productions.

Required Qualifications

Three to five (3-5) years of experience in ETC ION lighting systems and general stagecraft techniques. Broad knowledge in audio systems and counterweight fly system set up and operation. Broad knowledge of lighting design. Ability to read and interpret light plots, stage plots, ground plans and elevations, schematics, CAD drawings, and diagrams. Experience in construction of scenery and set pieces in accordance with plans; including carpentry, fabrics or other materials. Experience in overseeing technical crews. Knowledge of basic principles and methods of stage management. Working knowledge of standard theatrical equipment and terminology. Demonstrated knowledge of the methods and techniques in maintaining and installing mechanical equipment used in stage productions, with the ability to apply the knowledge in work. Basic knowledge of set and scenery design and construction. Ability to prioritize tasks when faced with interruptions, distractions, and fluctuating workloads, and to carry out duties in a reliable and timely manner. Strong analytical and organizational skills to prioritize projects and resources to meet deadlines. Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing. Interpersonal skills to interact with diverse groups of individuals at all organizational levels, both inside and outside of the Center. Ability to remain calm and respond confidently and promptly to stressful situations; use creative thinking and sound judgment in dealing with a variety of personality types and situations; follow and apply safety and work-related policies and procedures. Ability to lift and carry over 50 pounds. Knowledge of pertinent regulations and codes relating to theater productions. Ability to work effectively in a team based environment and to work independently and follow-through on assignments with minimal direction/instruction. Strong organizational skills, interpersonal skills, and attention to detail.

Special Instructions to Applicants

Work schedules change from project to project, requiring flexibility to facilitate productions including nights, weekends, and occasionally holidays. Applicants for Staff and Administrator positions must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. The offer of employment for the final candidate is contingent upon satisfactory completion of and outcomes of a criminal background screening, and upon you accepting and returning a signed original Agreement to Arbitrate.
