The Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center is closing out March right with two great performances. The first on Saturday, March 24 – Local legend, Gene Casey and the Lone Sharks, and the second, on Sunday, March 25 – rousing, rootsy duo Shovels and Rope.
Gene Casey formed the Lone Sharks after moving to Long Island’s East End in 1988, having received his baptism performing in the NYC / NJ area (Mudd Club, CBGBs, Maxwell’s, et. al) the waning days of punk/new wave. The Lone Sharks became a mainstay in the late 1990s Hamptonsmusic scene, when bars were plentiful and audiences robust and loyal. Today, the Sharks are a household name across the entire east end of LI, playing virtually every venue small and large.
Shovels and Rope’s broke through in 2013 on The Late Show with David Letterman and later that year won the Americana Music Honors & Awards for Emerging Artists as well as Song of the Year. The pair continues to create a perfect combination of sound and passion that will get your up on your feet or move you to tears.
