The story goes that Elayne Boosler’s career in comedy was launched in the 1970s when comedy genius (and later, Boosler’s beau) Andy Kaufman witnessed her belting out tunes at a club and told her she should “never, ever sing in public again”, Boosler says. He urged her to try comedy instead, and the rest is “herstory”.
Boosler brings her clever, feisty political humor to the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center in May. With a career that spans decades, Boosler is an incredibly prolific and successful star of stage and screen, with cross-country comedy tours, dozens of appearances on television, on cable, in movies, and book authorships, to her credit. Boosler is also a passionate animal rights advocate, having founded Tails of Joy, a nationwide nonprofit animal rescue and advocacy charity.
Relevant, refreshing, and real, Boosler’s comedy themes touch on politics, dating, and the elementary challenges of everyday life. Her simple observations and reactions are witty and disarming, making her comedy as relatable as someone living a life that parallels your own.
Elayne Boosler will be appearing at the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center on Saturday, May 14 at 8:00 PM. For tickets call the box office at 631-288-1500.
