Singer-songwriter Joshua Radin’s music is offhandedly referred to as “whisper rock” because of its quiet, fragile acoustic sound. While Radin’s music may seem relaxed, his lyrics often capitulate the tangible emotion of love – lost, found, and pondered. Radin take cues from his own life, and has reportedly weathered enough heartbreak to get “like, four albums” out of just one breakup.
Radin’s songs are perhaps best known for their commercial debut on two hugely popular television series – House and Grey’s Anatomy – as well as his role as show opener for touring singer Sheryl Crow. Tunes like “One of Those Days” “I’d Rather Be With You” and “Brand New Day” are familiar and pleasant songs that tease introspection intertwined with simplicity. Radin’s guitar play and thin vocals distill the essence of his emotions – and indeed, of all our emotions – and expose in his lyrics a refreshing sincerity that resonates.
Funny and engaging, Radin willingly shares the backstories of his music from the stage, identifying with audiences and meandering in and out of his infectious acoustic sound. It’s worth a listen to the man IndieLondon once called, “Someone whose timeless style is comparable to the grand masters such as Simon & Garfunkel.”
Joshua Radin will be appearing at the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center on Friday, May 6 at 8:00 PM. For tickets call the box office at 631-288-1500.
